Year 3 ventured out to Taronga Western Plains Zoo for their Zoo Snooze excursion at the end of Term 3.

After a wet and cold day, the rain stopped long enough for the students to check in to their five star luxury tents and get acquainted with one another. The students were then briefed about the night and next day by the friendly staff and zoo keepers.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by a night tour of the Australian Animals exhibit where we saw kangaroos, wallabies, emus, koalas and quokkas. The students were exhausted from the walk and after a scrumptious piece of cake and hot chocolate it was time for bed.

It was a bright and early start with no rain predicted the next day, so the students were in good spirits.

We loaded the bus with our bags and left the Billabong Camp on the way to the entrance of the zoo.

From here we visited the still under construction Animal Hospital and were told about the new flying chamber, where injured birds can learn to fly again. The Lion exhibit was the highlight for many students as we saw three new baby cubs, including Imani, which the students at Macquarie had named.

We continued around the zoo and eventually returned to school very tired!
