CIS Rugby League Gala Day

We are so proud of our CIS Rugby League Gala Day team! The students represented Macquarie with pride and showed grit and determination at the recent Gala Day.

Game 1 was against Macarthur Adventist. This was a tough game to have first. Our boys really stood up and ensured that our defence was solid in the middle third of the field and the game finished a 12-12 draw.

Game 2 was the toughest assignment for the day, coming up against St Luke's Grammar School. The Macquarie boys really rallied around each other and committed to sticking to the structure and smart brand of football that could ensure they gave themselves the best chance to come away with a win, and what a performance it was! Some very slick attacking flair and relentless defence saw the team chalk up a 36-4 win.

In Game 3, the boys were on a high and carried the momentum with them, coming up against Al Sadiq and using the space of the field extremely well to secure a 36-8 win. This meant we finished at the top of our pool. We rushed to see who was the opponent for our semi-final...

Game 4 was against Arndell Anglican, another very well-prepared school. A brilliant whole team effort and a trust in the structure we had been training every lunch time for proved the difference. We booked a place in the CIS Gala Day Grand Final with a 24-8 win!

Game 5 was against Nambucca Christian School. From the first whistle, it was clear to see why Nambucca had also made the six-hour journey to the carnival. However the scramble and determination from our Macquarie side was nothing short of amazing and really demonstrated our school values. Our side was exhausted and had played a lot of stunning football across the day, however we clawed back into the game to trail by two tries. Unfortunately two late injuries in the game and no stoppages for injuries ran the clock out, with Nambucca remaining in front.

We have immense pride in this young group and how they conducted themselves from the moment we left school to our return. Each student was a credit to our school and we are incredibly proud of their achievements to compete against some of the best Rugby League schools in the state and come very close to taking out the day.

Congratulations!
