Pre-Kindergarten is an exciting and engaging year where your child will prepare for their formal learning.

At Macquarie, Pre-Kindergarten is offered as a 2 day, 3 day or 5 day program. Children attending Pre-Kindergarten are provided with opportunities to develop school-readiness skills by cooperatively working with others and taking part in activities that build on their abilities and interests in a supportive academic environment.

Pre-Kindergarten provides a strong foundation for a student’s success at school by developing:

  • A positive attitude towards learning;
  • Early Literacy skills (written expression, book and print awareness, motivation to learn to read, language skills);
  • Early Numeracy skills (number recognition, one to one counting, shape recognition and manipulation, formation of numbers);
  • Experimental Science skills;
  • Creative experiences including Drama and Visual Arts;
  • Thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Independence and confidence; and
  • Physical abilities including fine and gross motor skills.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program uses educational and developmental foundations that are research-based for quality outcomes that best prepare students for Kindergarten. Daily activities use a variety of settings including whole-class activities, working in small groups and individual interactions with the teacher. Opportunities to learn in the classroom as well as in an outside environment provide an enriched educational environment.

Our Pre-Kindergarten Program builds trusting relationships with families which respect and support each unique home environment. Families are provided with opportunities to exchange information about their child’s strengths and learning achievements through regular teacher communication.

Pre-Kindergarten operates between the hours of 8:30am to 3:00pm during the school term.  Children may arrive at school from 8:30am for a 9:00am start. As regulation states students are to be signed in by their parent, older sibling or other approved carer every morning.  3:00pm marks the completion of the Pre-Kindergarten day. Pre-Kindergarten students are to be signed out by their parents, older sibilings or other approved carers every afternoon.

Children are to be turning 5 during the year of Pre-Kindergarten.

In summer Pre-Kindergarten students wear the Macquarie sports shorts and Macquarie Pre-Kindergarten shirt.  In winter Pre-Kindergarten students wear the Macquarie Pre-Kindergarten shirt, Macquarie sports tracksuit pants and and either the sports jacket or a Pre-Kindergarten fleece jumper.  All items of uniform can be purchased from our on-site Uniform Shop. Children are to wear correct sports shoes (velcro is acceptable).   A spare pair of socks, clean underwear and change of clothes should be kept in your child's bag. These do not need to be 'uniform' clothes. A pair of navy shorts/tracksuit pants and a red shirt are acceptable as spare clothes. These are often used when the children have 'messy play' or are using water outside.

Pre-Kindergarten children are able to order lunch from the Canteen which is delivered to their classrom.  No access to the canteen will be allowed during the day.  The canteen is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (closed Monday).
