Pre Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten is an exciting and engaging year where your child will prepare for their formal learning.

Pre-Kindergarten is open to children turning 5 to cater for them in the year before they start formal schooling.  Parents may select from a 2 day program (Monday-Tuesday) or 3 day (Monday-Wednesday) program.

Following receipt of your application fee of $110 (non-refundable and inclusive of GST) you will be invited to attend an interview with the Headmaster.

For enrolment enquiries, please contact Enrolments on (02) 6841 6222 or

Pre-Kindergarten operates between the hours of 8:30am to 3:00pm during the school term.

Children may arrive at school from 8:30am for a 9:00am start. As regulation states students are to be signed in by their parent, older sibling or other approved carer every morning.

3:00pm marks the completion of the Pre-Kindergarten day. Pre-Kindergarten students are to be signed out by their parents, older sibilings or other approved carers every afternoon.

Pre-Kindergarten children wear the Macquarie sports shorts and Macquarie Pre-Kindergarten shirt. Children are to wear correct sports shoes (Velcro is acceptable).

A spare pair of socks, clean underwear and change of shorts and shirt should be kept in your child's bag. These do not need to be 'uniform' clothes. A pair of navy shorts and a red shirt are acceptable as spare clothes. These are often used when the children have 'messy play' or are using water outside.

Children are to be turning 5 during the year of Pre-Kindergarten.

Pre-Kindergarten children will be allowed to order lunch from the Canteen.  No access to the canteen will be allowed during the day.  The canteen is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (closed Monday).

Children attending Pre-Kindergarten will be provided with opportunities to develop skills by cooperatively working with others and taking part in activities that build on their abilities and interests in a supportive academic environment.

Pre-Kindergarten provides a strong foundation for a student’s success at school by developing:

  • A positive attitude towards learning
  • Early Literacy skills (written expression, book and print awareness, motivation to learn to read, language skills)
  • Early Numeracy skills (number recognition, one to one counting, shape recognition and manipulation, formation of numbers)
  • Experimental Science skills
  • Creative experiences including Drama and Visual Arts
  • Thinking and problem solving skills
  • Independence and confidence
  • Physical abilities including fine and gross motor skills

The Pre-Kindergarten program will use educational and developmental foundations that are research-based for quality outcomes that best prepare students for Kindergarten. Daily activities will use a variety of settings including whole-class activities, working in small groups and individual interactions with the teacher. Opportunities to learn in the classroom as well as in an outside environment will provide an enriched educational environment.

The Macquarie Pre-Kindergarten Program will build trusting relationships with families which respect and support each unique home environment. Families will be provided with opportunities to exchange information about child’s strengths and learning achievements through regular teacher communication.
