Year 7-9 Boys compete in Western Zone T20 Cricket Tournament

5 December 2017

On Tuesday 28 November the Macquarie Year 7-9 Boys Cricket Team competed in the second round of the Western Zone T20 Cricket Tournament.

Their first match was a defeat against St John's College. The opening batters Jack Benias (16) and Tom Peacock (14) carved out a good partnership, however the scoring was slow due to a tight bowling effort by St John's and damp fields from rain the previous day.

The team finished the 20 overs with 4/66, however this could have been worse as St Johns missed quite a few chances.

Macquarie couldn't take a couple of early chances (stumping and a catch) to dismiss the opener. The opening pair didn't look back and chased down Macquarie's total in just 12 overs.

The second match against Mudgee was a win made difficult in the humidity of the day. Nathan Towart (40), Tom Masonwells (18) and Lawson Shepherd (34) set the foundation for a very solid score of 6/135. Nathan batted for 17 overs seeing out the opening bowlers and providing a great anchor to the innings. Lawson scored quickly from the 7th to 16th overs to launch Macquarie to its total.

The opening bowling pair of Ruthvik Gundapaneni and Willis Olney restricted the scoring and claimed a couple of opening wickets. This was followed by some more tight bowling and Alex Orth claiming 2 wickets, one of which was the "danger man". From here the wickets were shared evenly and continual tight bowling restricted the Mudgee side to just 9/110. The only concern from the performance was the 35+ Extras that were given to the Mudgee score - something to work on!
