Yarradamarra Open Day

Yarradamarra Open Day

By Admin on 2 August 2017

On Friday 28 July, 7 students from Macquarie Anglican Grammar School took part in TAFE Western’s Yarradamarra Open Day. They engaged in a number of activities including

  • Didgeridoo playing
  • Meeting with Elders
  • Talking about where different families belonged
  • A smoking ceremony for Sorry Business (cleansing out the body psychologically and spiritually)
  • Emu egg design
  • Body painting
  • Wiradjuri language
  • Ochre sand painting

All students had a great day and received some very positive feedback from one of our Macquarie parents who was present on the day:

“The feedback about Macquarie students was incredible from all Elders and participants. Your students have been described as mature, responsible, respectful, polite, well mannered, and above all else, genuinely interested and engaged in activities.

Not only did your students participate 100% today, but they also assisted the younger children within their groups without even having been asked to do so. Some of the Aunties observed this and were quite impressed with the leadership qualities shown by your students.

I feel incredibly proud to have connections to such a lovely schooling community.

Thank you to you and your students for their participation today. A very big thank you to Mrs Hurford, it was a pleasure to meet her and she did a fantastic job with the students today.”
