Music at Macquarie

Music at Macquarie

8 March 2018

Students who are interested in joining the following music groups, please let me (Mrs Barber) know. Rehearsals will begin in Week 8 of Term 1.

Choir

Senior School Choir will take place every Thursday at lunchtime in the Music Room. We will be working on a variety of different pieces throughout the year looking towards some assembly performances, Dubbo Eisteddfod and some other public performances, including an end of year Christmas visit to one of our local aged care facilities. All ages and abilities are welcome to join in.

We currently have a strong core group of approximately 8-10 students. We would love to build on this with more numbers and strength in choir. Students in Years 5 and 6 are also more than welcome to attend.

Concert Band - Junior and Senior

Macquarie Concert Band was off to a great start a few years ago. Unfortunately for a variety of reasons, numbers have dwindled. We are very keen to rebuild and get a great core group of students to be part of the growth of the band. Any Junior or Senior School student who is able to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, drums or other percussion is more than welcome to come along and work towards building the concert band at Macquarie. A small number of piano players will also be needed. Rehearsals will take place in the Music Room for Wednesday at lunchtime. We will start with a combined Junior/Senior school band but hopefully as numbers grow be able to split into separate groups.

Guitar Ensemble

This group is open to any student in Year 7-12 who plays the guitar. Students must be able to read rhythm and tablature and/or notes of pitch. Some chord knowledge would also be of benefit. Students of all levels are welcome.

If you are interested in being a part of either Senior School Choir, Macquarie Concert Band or Guitar Ensemble please see me at school or send me an email via jodie.barber@mags.nsw.edu.au.
