Boarding

Over the next 2 weeks, a number of other staff and I are heading to the towns of Bourke, Walgett and Broken Hill to complete our exploration of the possibility of developing a boarding community at Macquarie. We are currently developing a business case to see if the information we have gathered enables us to develop an educationally and financially sound model; and can provide the young people of the central west who can’t attend as day students with the care that is appropriate.

Macquarie attends National Science and Engineering Final

Macquarie attends National Science and Engineering Final

As the highest scoring school from the Host Region, Macquarie had the privilege of attending the National Science and Engineering Final hosted here in Dubbo on Friday 3 November. The best school from each state was here to compete for the National Title.

Our 30 students were divided into 8 teams to complete events such as designing and building a bridge, catapult, boat, hovercraft, aeroplane or eco-habitat; designing and transmitting a code or finding the shortest possible path between a series of points.

Macquarie Netball Club - Season 2018!

Preparations are underway to make Season 2018 the best one yet! Please keep an eye out for expression of interest forms to let us know that you are keen to be a part of our wonderful club next year. These will be distributed very soon. Teams fill up quickly so it is important to get in early.

We will be re-establishing a committee and are calling for anyone interested in helping to grow and develop our club further. If you would like to be on the committee, please contact Miss Rebecca Jackson via rebecca.jackson@mags.nsw.edu.au.

NSW Swifts Meet and Greet

NSW Swifts Meet and Greet

Macquarie Netball Club players had the chance to rub shoulders with some of our country's best netball players last Thursday at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, as part of a regional tour to promote the team and the game. 

Those who attended had the opportunity to chat to the NSW Swifts players, receive their autographs and take pictures with their favourite players.

School Psychologist Program at Macquarie

School Psychologist Program at Macquarie

Mr Nick Hurford commenced working at Macquarie this term. Nick is a Registered Psychologist, Member of the Australian Psychological Society, an experienced teacher and is thrilled to be back at Macquarie in his capacity as School Psychologist.

The role generally covers two areas of need in the school. One is identification, assessment and intervention for learning difficulties; the other is in a psychological services capacity. Students who have learning needs flagged with the Independent Learning Centre may be referred for assessment or involvement with Nick through Kristy McDermott (Academic Leader of the ILC). Students who have social, emotional or mental health issues may be referred for psychological services through Tim Chalmers (Deputy Headmaster - Junior School) or Simon Murphy (Deputy Headmaster - Senior School).
